"James Hollingsworth’s main stage set on the Saturday afternoon of the festival ranged from what was grounded in the traditional – a voice buzzing in the ear, the familiar plucked guitar – to what seemed to border on the celestial, as both voice and a much effected, but delicately measured, acoustic guitar swept back and forth across the arena. Pete Coe at Dartford Folk Club, Dartford, Kent
Issy, David & Kate at The Hoy at Anchor Folk Club, Leigh on Sea, Essex "Much of their material is original, but their style is distinctly traditional. Accompanying themselves on melodeon, guitar and bouzouki, with fine vocal harmonies and strong arrangements, their audience is with them from the word go.
Issy is an outstanding melodeon player. Inspired to take up the box by the playing of Norfolk squeezer Tony Hall, she has developed an unusually sensitive and creative style “a delight to play with” John Dipper. David’s guitar style was, he says, influenced by the playing of one of his folk heroes, Vin Garbutt. But various elements, not always folkie, of David’s eclectic taste in music can also be detected in his distinctive and thoughtful accompaniments.
The duo have recently been joined by brilliant cellist Kate Riaz. Her exquisitely skilful and creative playing has proved the perfect third dimension to an already successful duo."

"Once you have heard Sara Grey you will never forget her. She has a certain quality of voice that compels you to give her your undivided attention. Her voice is both powerful and sweet with a distinctive and lovely tremolo. It is a voice well suited to native American ballads and ballads of Ireland and Scotland.
One of the best things about her singing is that it reflects her great knowledge of and feeling for traditional music. She just seems to know what is right in the interpretation of a traditional song. She is a ballad singer of great strength with a fine understanding of the importance of understatement in the art of ballad singing. Her singing is richly emotional and she is equally at home with a gentle lyric or a harsh account of life on the frontier."

"Spreading disease from the Somerset and Dorset area of the West Country comes a filthy scum slime of rats, in fact the Bag of Rats. The band have toured around the local area (to the dismay of all) gigging at festivals, pubs and folk clubs entertaining the crowds (is five people a crowd?) with their unique take on folk with influences in Traditional English Beer, Nuclear Physics (where's me bloody fusion? - you can't have nuclear physics without fusion), Blues, Irish, Jazz, Country, a smidgen of Ska (Naah), a hint of alternative (Alt what?) and a peppering of salt and psychedelic skiffle."

All Welcome
Louisiana Red and Michael Messer at The Green Note, Camden, London
"A very special collaboration of two great musicians from contrasting backgrounds, brought together through a passion for playing blues slide guitar and many years of mutual admiration for each others’ work.
Louisiana Red was born in Alabama in 1932 and is one of the last great bluesmen still performing. Red earned his place in the blues via the harsh realities of life and by learning his craft from the fathers and grandfathers of the blues; Son House, Elmore James, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Arthur Crudup, Robert Nighthawk, Muddy Waters. B.B King & John Lee Hooker, to name just a few!
From the old acoustic delta sounds of Robert Johnson, all the way to the urban electric Chicago style of his mentor Muddy Waters and beyond, Louisiana Red’s great versatility shines.
Michael Messer was born in Middlesex in 1956 and is recognized as one of the leading slide guitarists and blues innovators around the world. The American magazine, ‘Spirit’ listed Michael as one of the greatest slide guitarists ever alongside Duane Allman and Ry Cooder. Michael Messer’s accolades include a US number one blues album in 2001 and the award for ‘Best International Blues Guitar Album’ in 2003."

Wendy Arrowsmith & Blind Summat at St Georges Day Delebration, Danby Village Hall, North Yorkshire
"Good Time (mainly!) Folk & Blues from North Yorkshire. Three talented musicians/ songwriters and a banjo player came together with a mission to cheer up the Folk Scene. The Result is...... Blind Summat! The Talented Musicians are: Wendy Arrowsmith. Wendy is establishing a name for herself on the Northeast Folk scene as a fine singer of traditional songs (Scottish, Irish, English & American) and as writer of folky style songs with a real sense of place and history. She says she mainly joined Blind Summat to laugh at the banjo player! Joolz Cavell is also well known on the North Yorkshire Folk Scene as a writer of fine contemporary folk songs, a talented percussionist and for her solid guitar style. She says she joined Blind Summat to pass the time between real gigs. Rebekah Findlay is another fine singer & musician and burgeoning songwriter. She says she joined Blind Summat to keep the old folks happy (i.e. the rest of the band). Paul Arrowsmith is the banjo player. He joined Blind Summat as it was the only gig he could get. Unaccompanied & folky!"
