Singers Night at The Forest Folk Club, Coleford, Gloucestershire

Eilen Jewell at The Round, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Boston (USA) based young singer / songwriter Eilen Jewell brings a Billie Holiday sultriness and a Lucinda Williams plaintiveness to classic country, jazz and blues styles, forging a low-key but alluring brand of Americana that's all her own. This is her debut UK show!
'Once in a great while, you put on a CD by an artist you've never heard of before and time stops. The voice is new, yet timeless. The lyrics are original yet feel immediately familiar, lived-in, knowing. And the melodies - expertly performed by a first-rate band - carry an easy, memorable groove. This is the story of Eilen Jewell and her wonderfully 'rockin' band!' Word Magazine

In 1966, he made his debut at the Newport Folk Festival and that same year he starred in the Andy Warhol movie ‘Space’. 1972 saw the release of Andersen’s most commercially successful album, ‘Blue River’ on the CBS label and in 1975 he performed with Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue. After falling into obscurity for a number of years, he re-emerged in 1988 with a new album, ‘Ghosts Upon the Road’ which was widely praised and placed on a number of critics' year-end "best of" lists.
Most of the 90’s were spent with the trio Danko/Fjeld/Andersen together with The Band’s Rick Danko and Jonas Fjeld but by the end of the decade he was working again as a solo artist. ‘You Can’t Relive The Past in 2000 contained several songs co-written by Townes Van Zandt. The title track of his next album Beat Avenue in 2003 was a 26-minute epic constructed round a ‘jazzy beat poem’ recalling his experiences among San Francisco’s beat community on the day of President Kennedy’s assassination. His latest album Blue Rain (2007) was recorded live in Norway and contains a blend of blues, jazz and folk."

Robin Williamson at The Kalamazoo Klub, Crouch End, North London
"Robin Williamson was one of the founders in the 60's of the influential Incredible String Band, but his career did not founder after their demise, although it might be said to have taken a few quirky turns, including a collaboration on a spy novel and the publication of a bizarre semi-autobiography. In the late 70’s Williamson met harpist Sylvia Woods, and together with Chris Caswell and Jerry McMillian, they formed Robin Williamson & His Merry Band, who made three albums together. After the breakup of the Merry Band, Williamson started to tour solo, offering highly ambient sets dominated by traditional stories set to song. Williamson's concern with the British bardic tradition also manifested itself in several books and tapes containing spoken renditions of traditional tales. Subsequent projects saw the prolific Williamson recording tapes and discs of music for children and pouring his energies into environmental projects for the Scottish Wildlife Trust. His most recent album, Iron Stone, was released on the ECM label in 2006 to great critical acclaim."

Barron Brady at Norwich Folk Club, Norwich, Norfolk

A stunning five-piece, top-flight band from Ontario. Powerful vocals, dazzling instrumentals, stunning stage-presence. These five play their original Canadian Folk Music with great panache.
